Big Brother: Listening to Social Media

We monitored chat about the remaining housemates in this year’s Celebrity Big Brother to explore who was being talked about most.

We also analysed thousands of posts from online social media to understand whether each of the housemates was loved or loathed.

We can see that love-or-hate-them singing twins Jedward are fuelling by far the most conversation online, with 2,505 mentions in the 3 days from 27-30th August.

They were followed by Kerry Katona and Tara Reid. Pamela Bach languishes at the bottom, with just 198 mentions.

Our analysis revealed that Jedward were also experiencing the highest percentage of positive mentions, at 80%.

They were followed closely in the positivity stakes by Irish traveller Paddy Doherty.

Pamela Bach and Bobby Sabel were the only housemates to be discussed more negatively than positively, at 78% and 53% negative conversation respectively.

Update: We’ve done some similar analysis exclusively for the TV Biz section of The Sun, analysing the popularity of the remaining contestants. You can see the article here.
