React: Dr Strange to Coachella: This Week’s Social Round-up

Brandwatch analyzes conversation surrounding some of the biggest online events in this week's social round-up

It’s Friday, but instead of dancing around the office to Rebecca Black we’ve been hard at work analyzing the week’s best moments on social.

Without further ado, let’s get to the data.

Doctor Strange blows minds

This week saw Marvel release a teaser trailer for the hotly anticipated Doctor Strange film, due in November.

Last time we checked it had 10 million views, a good sign that this is going to be one of the biggest superhero releases of the year.

With not much to go on in the way of promotional material before this point, fans went predictably wild.

@DrStrange, the official Twitter account, also tweeted this image which enjoyed a healthy few thousands retweets.

Facebook’s enormous developer conference took place over Tuesday and Wednesday, raking in over 20k mentions on social over the week.

We took a look at some of the most discussed topics from the F8 conference, finding that developments being made to Facebook Messenger generated the largest mention spike of the week.

One of the most retweeted related links of the week was to this visualization of Facebook’s 10 year roadmap:

Kobe’s last game

This week an historic NBA game saw the Golden State Warriors break the record for the most wins in a regular season, as well as the much loved Kobe Bryant’s last game. We tracked over 7million mentions of the event between Wednesday and Thursday.

Here’s what the topic cloud looked like:

Bryant also treated tweeters to a goodbye message, appropriately retweeted 165,000 times.

Kimmy Schmidt Season Two

Cancel your weekend plans and get the popcorn ready – Kimmy Schmidt is back! Season two was released on Friday and Peeno Noir fans are very very excited.

We’ve been watching the hype build all week and taking a look at the characters getting the most attention.

The show is generating thousands of mentions, and the characters are too.

Aside from Kimmy’s predictable lead, Jacqueline Voorhees and Titus Andromedon (season 1 favorites) are bringing in significant numbers of tweets while Lillian Kaushtupper is a little less talked about. Perhaps that will change as fans get through the episodes.

Binge responsibly, Kimmy fans.

Coachella begins

This weekend marks the beginning of the enormous Coachella festival. We tracked over 200k tweets about the festival during the week leading up to it and from attendees to jealous non-ticket holders, the excitement is building in a big way.
