The Internet Reacts: Game of Thrones S8 Episode 5 in Social Data Charts

Social data tells of the reaction to The Bells

The penultimate episode of Game of Thrones (EVER) left us all on the edge of our seats.

There were big moments, big gasps, and (dare I say before the spoiler warning?) big deaths.

Here, we’ll take you through the online reactions to Game of Thrones Season 8, Episode 5, entitled ‘The Bells’.

Quick spoiler alert

We’re going to reveal spikes in conversation and the top characters being mentioned. You’ll have to scroll across to see what causes mention spikes, but please be aware there are spoilers in there.

Our advice? If you’ve not watched the episode yet, come back and read this later.

Top line stats

During the time the show was aired live:

  • The show was mentioned 337,340 times on Twitter
  • Looking at gender-categorized authors, 59% came from female authors compared to 41% male
  • #ForTheThrone was mentioned nearly 45,900 times on Twitter
  • Sadness was the most dominant emotion present in the Twitter conversation

Episode five comes just behind episodes three and one in terms of Twitter mentions during the show.

The biggest moments

We saw the biggest spikes in conversation occurring towards the end of the action packed episode, but just take a look at those mention volumes – at no point do we go below 2k mentions in a single minute.

The top mentioned characters

It’s no spoiler to say that Arya Stark has been queen of the season so far, and she’s consistently been the top mentioned character.

That changed this week.
