In what has been described as the “the most seismic 60 minutes in the annals of the show,” the second episode of Game of Thrones season six held nothing back.
In the name of avoiding spoilers, we’ll let you know when the big moments happened and the characters that made a huge splash this week but we won’t reveal the specific details.
The episode, which broke a number of TV taboos, received over 144k Twitter mentions in the hour it played – about 30k less than last week’s premiere.
Similarly to last week, the most talked about moment came at the end of the episode, driven by a moment that drove nearly 11k tweets.
Amid the Twitter chaos, we tracked the most mentioned topics surrounding the episode. Tyrion Lannister fans will be happy to see “I drink and I know things” included.
The fact that “OMG” and “Holy Shit” made it in hints at the magnitude of the episode’s explosive events.
Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister and Ramsay Bolton were the top three most mentioned characters this week, while Hodor made a rare appearance in the top five.
Jon Snow also took the lead last week but smashed his record so far for the series with 11k mentions.
It was also Jon Snow who caused the highest mention spike at 9:56pm, dwarfing the significant spikes made by other characters earlier in the episode.
We took a look at the biggest moments for the characters being mentioned most and mapped them here:
Ramsay Bolton’s moment in the social spotlight was hugely controversial and perhaps something to brace yourself for if you’ve not seen the episode yet.
May 1st saw the world light up with Game of Thrones mentions. With two particularly huge moments in the episode for them to talk about, it’s hardly surprising.
As season six gets going, we’ll be keeping an eye on the episodes throughout the coming weeks to see what episodes are driving the most conversation and which characters will come out on top.
What did you think of the episode and season six so far?
