2013 Social Media Stats Put into Perspective

Have you ever taken a social media stat and put it in perspective by comparing it to things in the ‘real world’ around you? No? Well here at Brandwatch we like to take data and make it into something fun, so we’ve compiled some, er, interesting data comparisons from across the web about social media.

For example, did you know that Myspace has lost 43 million users since its peak in 2008, which is the same amount of overweight dogs in America!?

Here are a few more weird and wonderful social media statistics and their offline counterparts:

Finding these statistics can sometimes be painstakingly slow, as there are often multiple articles with conflicting figures and, as social media changes so quickly, it’s not always easy to know which are the most up-to-date numbers.

We love this little social media table (credit to Gary Hayes for this) which shows all the most interesting social statistics from Facebook likes to music tracks downloaded, in pseudo real-time.

As usual, let us know what you think of these stats in the comments below or even better, have a poke around our site and even request a live demo if you fancy taking a look at Brandwatch.
