The site has recently made some changes and improvements that allow your Slideshare presentations to be more effective in helping to spread the word about your conference material, or other presentations, and show the knowledge base your company possesses.

We hope these 6 tips will help you exercise your authority and expertise throughout your social channels via Slideshare.


1/ Add links

Slideshare now allows you to link out after slide 4 of your presentation. When developing new slides, you should be sure to link out to relevant sources and especially your own website, blog, and social channels as deemed relevant.

Of course, you don’t want to go throwing links everywhere, but a few strategically placed links that make sense will work in your favor.

You can even go back and edit old Slideshare presentations and add links after slide 4. They have set this up in such a way that editing your Slideshare will not change the permalink.


2/ Update old presentations

Speaking of editing old Slideshares, you can go back and edit or add to old presentations.

Best practices say to let readers know what has been added, or you can simply edit some links to new or updated information related to that topic.

If you do decide to make some changes, you can help to make your presentation more relevant and better inform your audience while showing that you stay on top of the trends and latest changes.

3/ Show off your brand

When adding slides to Slideshare, showcase your brand with vivid imagery and watermark each slide.

4/ Use rich media

Powerpoint already lets you add in flourishes and accents to help polish and embellish your presentation.

In addition to those extra design elements, your Slideshare presentation should feature images, content, and video. Make your presentation engaging and fun to watch, as well as educational.

5/ Write SEO friendly descriptions in Slideshare

Slideshare gives you a place for a description. Be sure that your description is filled with keywords that describe your presentation, your brand, and what you do.

Think about what people might be searching for, that your Slildeshare will help answer for them, and write your description based on that. Clever titles and jargon may fill your presentation, so take full advantage of the opportunity to explain what it is about in the descriptions and use all the available space.

In addition, carefully choose what you name the presentation. It should be two or three keywords that represent the presentation information, not the date or conference. Whatever you name the presentation is what will become the url of the Slideshare.

Having a few keywords that are close to what people might be searching for will help your Slideshare return in more searches.


6/ Make the first slide inviting

Our last tip is about where you start with the presentation. The first slide must be intriguing and informational enough to draw people in.

Your Slideshare first slide may not necessarily be the same first slide you use in your presentations to a more captive audience.

Remember that online readers have much less of an attention span than a client or a room full of conference attendees.

Your first slide should give them a good reason for clicking through. Give out one of the show-stopper statistics you offer up or just show readers how much they will get out of reading on.

With Slideshare’s robust features, you can definitely use it to showcase your expertise and authority in your subject area.

If you speak at conferences, this is a great way to keep in touch with attendees who viewed your presentation, and also spread your reach even further.

However, you don’t have to speak at conferences to use Slideshare, it provides a great way to share sales data with prospective customers, or just show your expertise on a subject without the travel and expense of a conference.

These 6 tips show you how to make the most of your Slideshare presentation and make it very effective for your goals.

Once your Slideshare presentation is live, remember to share that throughout all other channels including social media, blog, and even your website.
