The secondhand clothing market is booming. With a global market value of $211 billion, it’s expected to grow to $351 billion by 2027. That’s a lot of potential for brands to harness. And Vinted is showing us how.

Vinted provides a marketplace for consumers to find and resell used clothing. In 2022, the app was the most downloaded fashion and beauty shopping app in the UK and France. The number of people talking about Vinted online increased by an impressive 43% between April and September in 2023.

As we all know, sustainability is a huge issue in the fashion industry. According to the BBC, 92 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away every year. And this number could grow to 134 million tonnes by 2030. To combat this, Vinted recently released their first Climate Impact report, which provides a comprehensive and transparent overview of the company’s carbon emissions.

The platform is reportedly saving about 3.6 billion kilometers of driving emissions. Plus, for every 2.56 items purchased on Vinted, the purchase of a new item is avoided – ultimately causing fewer products to go into landfills. A fifth of respondents in a Vinted survey say they buy on Vinted for social or environmental reasons, and a fifth also say they would still buy used if a similar new item had the same price.

Vinted is taking their impact seriously. Combining that with an easy-to-use app, impressive brand awareness, and the fact that the company has seen mammoth growth makes them a Brandwatch Change Maker for 2023.
