A Sector Director will lead the company’s sector specific strategy. This role reports to the VP of Enterprise. As the lead on the company’s sector strategy you will be expected to become the sector subject expert, lead internal discussions and intra-office knowledge sharing, assist marketing in helping set sector marketing priorities, engage and utilize data team to drive appropriate data heavy content and liaise with product team on roadmap.

Due to our rapid expansion we are now hiring a Postgres Database Administrator to join our Systems team and help us scale our infrastructure as we collect and analyse more and more data from the Web.

You will monitor and maintain large PostgreSQL database instances (1-4TB per server, Fusion-io backed), with the aim to achieve availability and performance requirements. This will include capacity planning, database relocation, failover setup and management as well as further sharding of the databases.

Additionally you will define data storage best practice, and mentor developers on writing SQL queries and making changes to existing schema.

Brandwatch is looking for its first full time fully qualified Legal Counsel to assist in all legal areas for the company, including commercial contracts with customers, partners and suppliers, compliance with data privacy laws, IP and trademark protection, incorporation of foreign subsidiaries, compliance with employment contracts, etc. The role reports to the CFO and covers all our current operations in the UK, US and Germany and future international subsidiaries as we expand globally.


Details of responsibilities

Contracts management
Managing the contracts we have with third parties is, unsurprisingly, the bulk of the work at Brandwatch and comes under 4 headings:

  • Contract negotiations with larger clients
  • Contracts for newer and more complicated reseller and partners
  • Setting up better systems and processes to track and record the contracts and the risks therein
  • Dealing with a miscellany of generally less contentious contracts (employment, suppliers, leases, etc)

The bulk of the daily work at Brandwatch will be in drafting, amending and negotiating contracts with customers and partners.  These occur mostly with customers in the US and UK and typical areas where we customise our standard clauses around data security, service levels and insurance requirements.

The role also includes setting up and standardising reseller and partner programmes: we have started to sell the complimentary products of other social media companies to customers and these other social media companies have started to sell to Brandwatch. We need contracts to reflect these more complicated arrangements.

Our current systems allow us to find our contracts,  but as we grow, we would like to upgrade our systems including having a proper register of legal risks from our contracts.

Other contract management tasks include review and sign off of NDAs, supplier agreements, employment contracts, marketing contracts, etc.


Data Privacy laws
The privacy of people’s data and their personal identifiable information is a complex legal subject with variations between the countries we operate in, differences whether we are the data controller to when we are a data processor and a lot of uncertainty about how to interpret laws that we designed before the era of social media.

We would need our legal advisor to stay up to date on the developments in this area and help inform how we should react and what changes we need to make to the team.


IP considerations
This role will be required to work on copyright and trademark claims and registrations in the UK, Europe and US and potentially worldwide.


Dispute resolution
Although currently not a significant part of the time spent in this role, we do have occasional cases of escalating disputes, e.g., a small number of clients not paying us, a few minor issues involving our reputation, etc.

Another area of potential work is in the application of copyright laws to social media monitoring. While not currently an issue, different countries have different interpretation and a dispute may eventually arise in one of these areas.

The Legal Counsel will also be asked to assist in all legal areas the company, including

-          Company secretary information

-          Internal governance policies – anti-bribery, equality, data protection.

Skills and background
We are looking for an intelligent and experienced generalist lawyer who is looking for more responsibility

  • 5-7 years qualified
  • Broad legal knowledge (commercial law, corporate law, employment law, intellectual property law etc)
  • Transaction experience (equity funding, debt funding etc) would be an advantage
  • In-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organisations, preferably in the technology/media field.

As we continue our fast expansion, we are hiring Korean, Dutch, Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese speaking Freelance Query Writers & Data Validators to capture, analyse and categorise comments made about our respective clients on social media platforms. This job description summarises the main duties of the work. It neither prescribes nor restricts the exact tasks that may be assigned whilst in the role.

Major duties:

  • Constructing search queries to capture brand mentions on social media sites (full training provided)

The Professional Services team are the power users of Brandwatch. From local to international roll-outs, single to multilingual requests and PR to research projects, our job is to translate our client’s requirements into Brandwatch setup and ensure that the process is both smooth and efficient. Sales Operations Team

Sales Operation is a new function in Brandwatch that has been set up to make the sales team heroes through:

  • Ensuring we record and evaluate how well the Sales team are performing
  • Identifying and implementing ways the Sales team can perform better (including training, incentives, processes, tools, etc)
  • Acting as arbitator to manage any exceptions that arise around pricing, legal terms, product and commissions

Purpose of role

This position is initially to establish the Sales Operations function, but then to continuous improve it as we double the size of the sales team over the next 12 months across the UK, Europe, US and beyond.

The Sales Operations Director will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring best practice processes are adopted for lead generation, lead qualification, sales, upselling, renewals and churn
  • Ensuring sales managers can generate accurate weekly sales forecasts, renewal reports and churn forecasts and disseminate these to the wider business
  • Using data from those processes to identify potential improvements
  • Ensuring sales staff are fully trained and are Salesforce experts
  • Helping design and refine commissions and ensure accurate implementation
  • Identifying possible different org structures that could deliver improvements as we grow 100% year on year
